Our annual Senior Class Pilgrimage to Rome provides students with a first-hand experience of the glories of ancient Rome, Florence and Assisi. Students walk in the Roman Forum, climb the magnificent dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, descend under the Basilica in the Scavi tour where they pray at the tomb of St. Peter, and sing Gregorian chant at Holy Mass in the catacombs. They see the great sculptures of Bernini in the Borghese gardens, Michelangelo’s David in the Accademia, and the frescoes of Fra Angelico in San Marco. Students pray in front of the San Damiano Cross in Assisi and hike up a mountain trail to the Eremo delle Carceri in Monte Subasio where St. Francis himself would go to pray.
During the Rome Pilgrimage, Lyceum students encounter the spiritual and artistic heritage of the Roman world which complements their Lyceum education—an immersion into the great intellectual heritage of Western Civilization.
